Radial Distribution Function and Structural Relaxation in Amorphous Solids
A method of interpreting radial distribution functions (RDF) of amorphous metals is proposed in which the role of the local atomic structure is emphasized. It is found that the width and height of the peaks of the RDF are related to the second moment of the atomic-level hydrostatic stress distribution ⟨p2⟩. The results of this analysis are then used to explain the details of the changes that oc...
متن کاملBasic mechanisms of structural relaxation and diffusion in amorphous silicon
The low-temperature dynamics in amorphous silicon occurs through a sequence of discrete, activated events that reorganize the topology of the network. In this review, we present some recent work done to understand better the nature of these events and the associated dynamics in a-Si. Using the activation-relaxation technique (ART), we generated more than 8000 events in a 1000-atom model of a-Si...
متن کاملStrain relaxation mechanisms and local structural changes in Si1ÀxGex alloys
In this work, we address issues pertinent to the understanding of the structural and electronic properties of Si12xGex alloys, namely, ~i! how does the lattice constant mismatch between bulk Si and bulk Ge manifest itself in the alloy system? and ~ii! what are the relevant strain release mechanisms? To provide answers to these questions, we have carried out an in-depth study of the changes in t...
متن کاملStructural Relaxations by Double Well Systems in Amorphous Alloys
In amorphous alloys the initial susceptibility and induced anisotropy are due to structural rearrangements which are described by double well systems. The analysis of the magnetic after effect (MAE). spectra in FeB alloys and the induced anisotropy in CoFe~isiB reveals broad asymmetric activation energy spectra between O R < ~ F e B < 2 eV, 1.2 eV < QR < 2.7.
